RECEPTION OF MAINLAND TELEVISION:
Just as you
require an antenna for TV1 & 2 (usually dual channel) and an antenna for
TV3, you will also need an antenna for Mainland. If you live in the Nelson or Golden Bay regions where you can see
Observatory Hill or the Takaka Hill, you
should be able to receive our
signal on a UHF antenna with very good quality. You may receive us on
rabbit-ear type antennas as used on many portable TV's but the picture is
likely to be very snowy unless you live within 5 k/m of our transmitters and
there are few obstructions.
Mainland also
operates 3 radio stations on 88.4 FM Nelson, 88.4 FM Blenheim & 107 FM
Motueka & Golden Bay. If you can receive these stations you should be able
to pick up Mainland TV with a UHF antenna as they are broadcast from the same
transmission towers.
If you live in
Atawhai, The Glen, Richmond, Brightwater, Moutere, Tasman, Takaka or
Collingwood and can see the Takaka Hill, you will need an outdoor UHF antenna
as rabbit ear antennas will not provide a good picture. You will also need a
mast head amplifier if there are any obstructions between your antenna and the
station or if you operate more than one TV from your antenna system. Every time
you add a TV outlet whether the TV is switched on/off or not even plugged in,
the signal drops by 50%.
If you live in
the southern part of Nelson city and are having trouble receiving us, you may
be able to receive our Channel 48 repeater which is using vertical polarity.
Mainland Nelson City 48 broadcasts Worldnet Television during the day and Local
61 during the evenings and mornings.
If you live
between Nelson and Wakefield or in Belgrove,
Motueka, Mapua, parts of
Marlborough, the Outer Sounds, lower Nth Island, or other areas over 15km from
Observatory Hill or Takaka Hill, you will require a good UHF antenna for Ch 61,
33, 41, 44 & Ch 29 and in many cases a masthead amplifier to boost the
signal.
One UHF
antenna may receive the Local UHF channel,
however, you will need two UHF
antennas to receive all UHF TV channels in the region as Mainland Network 29
and Mainland Visitor Info 44 broadcast from the Takaka Hill and Mainland Local 61, Bays 33 & CH7
from Observatory Hill, Nelson. Two UHF antennas with the normal VHF antenna
should provide you with 10 free choices. See
www.7-media.net for details on
programming & other information. Our program guide is also on the website.
It is
important to use good quality low loss UHF coax cable as the signal will be
lost in older types of cable. Look for
the cable with a foil outer earth if you are installing the antenna
yourself. Remember to point the antenna
at the correct location and use the correct polarity. Remember Horizontal for
Nelson & Vertical for others. For
further assistance - See TV Aerials in
your Yellow Pages for your nearest installer.
If
you have paid the $199 for a SKY install plus the $70 a month, you will still
be able to pick up Mainland TV.
If you can’t for some reason SKY will fix it for you for free. If they don’t call Mainland on 546 6567
FREE Satellite TV – Now you no longer have to Pay for digital satellite TV. You can buy your own dish and receiver and watch hundred of channels with no monthly fees. Nelson TV & Video can advise you of the options and cost. Plug your UHF antenna into the rear of these satellite receivers and you can watch NZ networks, Overseas Networks plus all our local TV channels.
