Dear Minister,
RE: -
Nelson’s Community Television
It has been brought to my attention that Nelson’s
Community Television Licence is in danger of being cancelled by the Ministry of
Culture & Heritage.
I sincerely request that you re-issue Nelson’s only Community
Television Licence for the following reasons:-
Ø
This
station has been an enormous benefit to the local community by broadcasting
‘family friendly’ programmes that can be viewed as a ‘family unit’ without any
fear of violence, profanity, sexual content and numerous other offending
scenes.
Ø
There
are programmes that have altered people’s lives and the channel has received,
and continues to receive, letters of gratitude and testimonies.
Ø
This
channel provides me with some local content, gives me hope and enjoyment in my
life.
Ø
This
community channel has been surviving for the last 5 years on the donations
received from the local people who love this channel, which shows the
willingness of the community to try and keep this local broadcast.
Ø
I
support the local Trust that operates Channel 7 Nelson and would not like to
see it go ‘off the air’.
Ø
I
do not see any advantage to close the channel given its free service to the
community.
Ø
We
are very fortunate to have such a channel operating here in Nelson and it would
be a crime that it would no longer be transmitting 24/7. Especially now that
there is ‘local content’ starting to appear.
